Portraits of Achalay
Another reality in Darfur, between war and peace
Series of portraits taken in 2012 for the book "Los Ninos de Achalay", for the former Foundation Achalay in the surroundings of Lima, Peru.
In 2012, the Achalay Foundation's farm home housed 42 children and around ten caretakers in the San Andrés farm, in Peru. It provided a resting place and a springboard for the future for children aged between 4 and 17 who were at high risk and whose families were no longer, or were unable to look after them.
Partially or totally abandoned, abused, victims of physical, sexual or moral violence and sometimes on the street, forced to work, they were taken care by by a team of Peruvian psychologists, educators and doctors. In the San Andrés farm, they received personalised attention as well as follow-up and educational and medical support, with the aim of being able to reintegrate into society as autonomous, productive and socially responsible young adults.
Note that since the closing of the Foundation Achalay, my support to the project stopped.
